RECENT PROJECTS 2009 - 2010

Brassey Heritage Hotel western forecourt sustainable landscape refurbishment - reinvigorate the space allowing better patron usage and new plantings in a heritage palette.

Manuka Arts Centre: Master Plan then full documentation and delivery of now completed improvements, reconciling heritage values with commercial tenant operations within the site. A multi disciplinary team lead by ELD.
DOHA Sirius Offices, Woden Town Centre: Major piazza and double verge frontages with extensive street tree and low shrub plantings, hardscape feature paving, furniture and WSUD features for a $130m multi story 44,000m2 office development for the Department of Health and Aging.

DEEWR City Centre Offices: Triple verge frontages with street trees and furniture set in hardscape feature paving for a $100m 11 story 38,500m2 A grade office development in the Canberra CBD for the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. Mature Pin Oaks retained. A 5 Green Star / 5 ABGR specification.

University of Canberra Student Living: New 3ha 18 apartment block student village accomodating over 500 students. Extensive outdoor communal spaces and pedestrian network to achieve PWD access to 15 of 19 buildings on a steep slope requiring intricate levels resolution.

Lyons Shopping Centre refurbishment: a quality urban design outcome of a forecourt, verges and seating spaces to be completed Xmas 2010 with upgrades to pavements, lighting, carparking, amenities, traffic calming and vegetation. A multi disciplinary team lead by ELD.

Green Square shopping centre: Sustainability plantings and added paving to transform a drought ravaged lawn at a key shopping centre public space.

Woden Green estate streetscape: Quality urban inner city character style to a major Town Centre up to 1,500 dwelling development. Also adjacent feature park design.

St Monicas and St John Apostle Primary Schools: Shade sails, play spaces and low wall seating to functionally enhance traditional concrete or grass courtyards.

The Canberra College Performing Arts Centre: Design documentation of a new Arts facility landscape with large forecourt.

Gungahlin Lakes Golf Course enhancement works: Strategic golfing and course landscape enhancement works designed and constructed 2007 – 2010 involving 39 No. strategic new or remodelled bunkers; 4.5kms of cartpaths; and tee upgrades (stone walls, laser levelling, planter beds, stone bin wells, furniture, etc) to 10 No. of the tees. Jamie Dawson did the original Course Routing Plan in 1992 then co-design of the course with Ted Parslow followed by the project management /supervision of the 18 championship holes opened in 1996. The Club has funded the 'finishing touches' to much acclaim and Jamie is thrilled to see his original visions for the course - largely built out of flat swampy pasture - be now achieved after 18 years!

Other recent projects active in 2009-2010 illustrating the diverse range of projects within the practice include:
  • Fyshwick (and Airport east link) link roads feasibility study visual assessment.
  • Molonglo 2 estate planning study (LA design, river corridor and visual assessment support) for a targeted 18,000 person suburb(s) on moderately steep undulating land (current).
  • Gungahlin Valley Ponds and WellBeing Precinct pond / waterways habitat, water reuse and water quality enhancement (current). Similar Dickson / Lyneham Ponds now in construction.
  • Namadgi National Park picnic area enhancement masterplans.
  • Goodwin Homes 3hole Pitch & Putt (now constructed).
  • Woden Green N10 and Cape Street Dickson commercial / residential buildings DA.
  • Kingston Foreshore Stage 4 estate streetscape documentation.
  • Haig Park Master Plan: a National Estate listed 25ha linear park adjoining the Canberra CBD.
  • Braddon Flats landscape concepts and key tree retention input for initial planning studies to transform aged housing blocks into over 1,000 new apartments adjacent to the City Centre.
  • China resort course landscape design advice to peer review a local firm design to improve the outcome for a course west of Shanghai.
  • Australian Centre for China in the World academic facility at the Australian National University (current).
  • Proserpine GC Whitsundays Coast drainage / course enhancement designs (current).
  • Naval base communications facilities landscape design and Environmental Management Plan (current).
  • Guthega Quad chairlift environmental rehabilitation / management plan drafting (current).
  • Gold Coast golf course safety expert witness aiding a safer estate integration outcome.
  • Kinross Wollaroi College, Orange Preparatory School new classrooms (now constructed).
  • Capital Business Park, Phillip new offices landscape (now constructed).
  • Belvoir Park Master Plan, Wodonga, Victoria to guide its 27ha transformation into the 'jewel in the crown' of Wodonga parks.
